Actually, computers are much more than an interest. I'm the President of a multi-national web
marketing company.
Here's what I use on a daily basis:
- Mac - Currently using G5/2GHz/1GBRAM minitower running OSX 10.4.11, and MacBook Intel 2.2GHz/160/OSX10.5 & Windows Vista Business Edition. I use both machines daily for digital audio recording/editing (including my own demo), digital video editing (linked to a Sony DCR PC-115 mini DV firewire video cam), DVD production, web page design, budget planning/ management, and everything else. Special thanks to my best friend and Mac genius Mark Chappell, for all the expert advice and guidance. Macs are easy to use and troubleshoot, offer native CD quality audio from the factory, and I save a lot of time because they are so user friendly and practically virus free. Windows Vista runs faster on my MacBook than OSX...MS Office apps open in less than a second... same with IE7. However, I rarely use Vista for email because of the virus risk.
- Windows - Currently using a Sony VAIO/2.6GHz/512mb RAM/DVD+RW Laptop. Windows XP Pro (J). I used Windows (3.1, 95, 98) extensively for 8 years as Tour/Budget/Equipment Manager for the PACAF Band. Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc. Having been previously zapped by an email virus (I had to completely reformat the HD and wasted many hours) that seem to plague Windows, I now use the Windows PC only to view files that I can't open on the Mac, preview website projects and manage web database applications.
- Software - MS Office 2007, MS Office 2008, Adobe CS3 Web Premium, Toast 8 Titanium, etc.
- Preference - Having used both Mac and Windows platforms professionally for many years, I simply prefer using whichever one saves time and maximizes productivity. For my current needs it's definitely Mac. Rumor has it that even Bill Gates uses a Mac on occasion...
